The naming of prehistoric eras refer to cultures rather than dates.  So for instance when the Middle East had developed a Bronze age culture, Britain was still in the stone age.

8000 - 4000 BC Mesolithic or Middle Stone Age
4000 - 2000 BC Neolithic or New Stone Age
2000 - 550 BC Bronze Age
550 BC - 43 AD Iron Age
43 - 500 AD Romano-British
500 - 1066 AD Saxon
1066 - 1500 AD Medieval
